Weekend holding means leaving a position open after its market closes on Friday and carrying it into the next trading week. That capability matters to swing traders, but the label “weekend holding allowed” is not enough to choose an account. Permission may apply only during evaluation, only to a Swing account or only to certain instruments.

MyFxKit reviewed nine program-and-stage records across five prop firms. Overnight holding, weekend holding, evaluation versus funded status, forced Friday closure, reference time, swap treatment and open-trade drawdown exposure were recorded separately. Sources were observed on September 8, 2026 and should be checked again before purchase.

Prop firms that allow weekend holding

Short answer: FundedNext permits overnight and weekend holding across its current Challenge and FundedNext Accounts. The5ers states that its CFD account types support weekend holding. Alpha Swing allows it during evaluation and on the Qualified Account, but that permission must not be transferred to every Alpha product. Blue Guardian publishes no overnight or weekend-holding restriction for the reviewed programs. At FTMO, Evaluation accounts allow weekend holding for Standard and Swing configurations; after funding, only an FTMO Account Swing retains that freedom, while a Standard FTMO Account must be closed before the weekend.

Permission is not a statement of safety. A reopening gap, slippage, swap charge or floating-loss calculation can turn a stopped trade into a drawdown breach. This page is not financial advice and does not guarantee account performance, qualification or a payout.

Overnight holding, weekend holding and weekend trading are different

Three separate capabilities are often collapsed into one label:

CapabilityMeaningQuestion to answer
Overnight holdingA position remains open across the daily rolloverIs it allowed, and how is swap charged?
Weekend holdingA position remains open from Friday’s market close until the next weekDoes permission cover this program, stage and account type?
Weekend tradingA trade can be opened or closed on Saturday or SundayIs the instrument actually available on this server during those hours?

An account may allow an FX position to remain open while the market is closed without permitting execution until the new week. Crypto symbols may follow different schedules.

How programs qualified for this collection

The unit of review is:

firm + program + stage + account type + holding rule

A row received an “allowed” status only when an official source covered that program or a clearly defined group of accounts. Silence on a sales page was not treated as permission. When evaluation and funded stages—or Standard and Swing accounts—differed, each state received its own record.

The review captured:

  • Overnight holding across the daily rollover.
  • Weekend holding from Friday close to the next market opening.
  • Evaluation, funded and instant-account stages.
  • Mandatory closing of positions and pending orders.
  • A fixed cutoff or instrument-specific trading schedule.
  • Standard swap, triple swap and swap-free treatment.
  • Whether weekend crypto execution is separately documented.
  • Equity, floating loss and daily-drawdown exposure.
  • Minimum holding-time and conduct rules that remain active.

Program-by-program findings

FTMO: Evaluation and FTMO Account rules differ

FTMO’s official holding policy says overnight and weekend restrictions apply to the Standard account type only after a trader reaches an FTMO Account. The restriction does not apply during the Evaluation Process. Positions can therefore remain open overnight and over the weekend during FTMO Challenge 1-Step, FTMO Challenge 2-Step and Verification, whether the configuration is Standard or Swing. Current program data is available in the MyFxKit FTMO profile.

The status changes after qualification. A Standard FTMO Account must close positions shortly before the market closes for the weekend or before a rollover break longer than two hours. FTMO does not publish one universal cutoff for every symbol. Trading hours can vary by instrument, market conditions and holidays and should be checked in the platform, on the FTMO Symbols page and in Trading Updates.

The FTMO Swing account page exempts Swing accounts from overnight and weekend-holding restrictions. Do not assume an Evaluation-stage Standard account will become a weekend-compatible funded account automatically. Swing availability must be selected through an eligible product path.

FundedNext: allowed, with swap inside the risk calculation

FundedNext’s official overnight and weekend policy permits overnight holding across current account types and lists weekend holding for Challenge Accounts, FundedNext Accounts, Free Trials and Free Monthly Competition Accounts. Stellar 1-Step, Stellar 2-Step and Stellar Lite are explicitly named. Program details can be cross-checked in the MyFxKit FundedNext profile.

Permission does not eliminate carrying costs. On swap-bearing accounts, the charge depends on the instrument and counts toward daily loss. FundedNext publishes triple swap on Wednesday for forex and commodities and Friday for indices. Its crypto and stock schedule also varies by platform.

A swap-free account removes the swap charge, not the separate risks from spreads, gaps, floating loss or program rules.

The5ers: broad CFD permission with separate news and symbol checks

The5ers’ official swing-trading guide states that overnight and weekend holding are available across its CFD account types without a separate add-on. The same guide tells swing traders to check news handling, drawdown structure, instrument availability and holding duration independently. The relevant account data is collected in the MyFxKit The5ers profile.

Permission is not evidence that every symbol has identical conditions. Forex, indices, commodities and crypto can carry different hours, swaps and gap behavior. Match the selected account with the firm’s current prohibited-practice rules and the platform’s instrument specification.

Alpha Capital: product name controls the answer

The official Alpha Swing product page allows weekend holding during both Evaluation and the Qualified Account. It is designed for longer-duration positions, offers FX leverage up to 1:30, and publishes a 10% static maximum loss with a 5% balance-based daily drawdown. Swap still applies. Other account configurations are listed in the MyFxKit Alpha Capital profile.

That permission belongs to Alpha Swing, not the Alpha Capital brand as a whole. Alpha’s official Instant Funding guide says overnight holding is allowed but positions must be closed before the weekend. Choosing the wrong product changes the same strategy from permitted to prohibited.

Blue Guardian: holding is allowed, but the daily reset continues

Blue Guardian’s 2 Step Standard rules and Instant Starter rules state that there are no restrictions on overnight or weekend holding. The two-minute minimum holding period and tick-scalping rule remain independent conditions.

The Blue Guardian platform rules set the daily-drawdown reset at 5:00 PM EST. An open position carries into the next trading day’s calculations. Weekend permission therefore does not pause equity monitoring or protect the account from a loss recorded after the reset.

What happens between Friday and Monday?

Friday-to-Monday weekend-holding timeline

A weekend hold normally passes through these steps:

  1. Before Friday’s close, the trader checks the exact instrument schedule and any holiday notice.
  2. If the account has a forced-close rule, positions and applicable pending orders are cleared before the cutoff.
  3. While the market is closed, a stop cannot execute against a non-tradable quote.
  4. The first tradable price after reopening may differ materially from Friday’s closing price.
  5. A stop order is processed at the next executable price, not necessarily at its displayed stop level.
  6. The resulting equity is immediately compared with daily and maximum loss limits.

When a rule says “shortly before market close,” do not invent a minute. The instrument specification on the actual account and the firm’s holiday notice are more reliable than a generic market-hours page.

How a gap can pass through the stop loss

Weekend gap-through-stop drawdown scenario

Assume a $100,000 account has a maximum-loss threshold of $90,000. The position remains open on Friday with equity at $92,500. Its stop would normally close the position near $91,000.

If the market reopens beyond the stop and the first executable exit leaves equity at $89,600, having a stop does not prevent a breach. The account has already reached a value below the permitted threshold. Under rules where touching the exact threshold is also a breach, equity of exactly $90,000 would fail as well.

Equity after gap = Balance + realized P/L + unrealized P/L − costs

Breach when Equity ≤ Loss Limit

Use the prop-firm drawdown guide and floating-loss rule guide to identify what the selected program measures.

Swap and the daily-drawdown reset

Two material risks exist even without a reopening gap. First, swap can reduce equity at rollover. Second, the daily-loss threshold may be recalculated when the trading day resets. If the model uses the new day’s starting balance or equity, the position’s available buffer may change.

Record four values before holding:

  • Current equity.
  • Daily-loss threshold before and after reset.
  • Maximum-loss threshold.
  • Standard or triple swap for the instrument.

Convert percentages into the account’s actual cash buffer and test the gap scenario against the stricter threshold. The MyFxKit drawdown calculator should be configured with the rules of the specific account.

Weekend-holding verification checklist

  1. Record the firm, program, stage and account type.
  2. Confirm whether the rule covers only overnight holding or the full weekend.
  3. Do not transfer Evaluation permission to Funded or Swing permission to Standard.
  4. Read Friday’s closing time for the exact instrument in the account platform.
  5. Convert the firm’s reference timezone correctly.
  6. Check holiday notices and daylight-saving changes.
  7. Include pending orders in any mandatory Friday-close rule.
  8. Record swap and triple-swap values from the instrument specification.
  9. Calculate the cash distance from equity to daily and maximum loss thresholds.
  10. Stress-test an opening price beyond the stop level.
  11. Treat elections, geopolitical events and Monday releases as execution risks.
  12. Obtain written support confirmation before Friday when the policy is unclear.

Country access and KYC remain separate eligibility gates. Holding permission does not prove that a trader’s residency or documents are accepted.

Frequently asked questions

Does overnight holding automatically include weekends?

No. Alpha Instant Funding is a clear counterexample: overnight holding is allowed, but positions must be closed before the weekend. Both capabilities must be documented.

Does FTMO allow weekend holding?

Yes during Evaluation. On an FTMO Account, Swing permits it, while Standard requires positions to be closed before the weekend. Always attach the stage and account type to the answer.

Does a stop loss prevent a drawdown breach after a gap?

No guarantee exists. The market may reopen beyond the stop and fill at the next executable price. If equity touches or crosses the loss threshold, the account can breach.

Can crypto be traded during the weekend?

It depends on the firm, program, platform and symbol schedule. General holding permission does not prove weekend crypto execution. Check the exact instrument specification.

Does a swap-free account remove weekend risk?

No. It removes the swap charge, but gaps, slippage, spreads, equity drawdown, news risk and program restrictions remain.

Which prop firm is best for weekend holding?

There is no universal winner. FTMO Swing provides a clearly separated Swing route; FundedNext, The5ers and Blue Guardian publish broader permission within the reviewed scope; Alpha offers a named Swing product. The correct choice depends on drawdown, swaps, platform, access and the strategy’s real holding behavior.
